Lester R. Brown

Lester R. Brown is the founder and former president of Worldwatch Instutute, a private, nonprofit environmental research organization in Washington, DC. He is the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation "genius award," the United Nations 1989 Environment Prize and the Asahi Glass Foundation's Blue Planet Prize, and he holds a string of honorary degrees from universities around the world. Before founding Worldwatch, Brown was Administrator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's International Agricultural Developement Service and Advisor to the Secretary. He started his career as a farmer, growing tomatoes in New Jersey. Brown's books include:
